Story by OUYANG --- Spider burger

 Premise 

Jack is an unsocial little boy who is indulged in the superhero comics all day. One day, while eating a hamburger, Jack found a dead spider in it suddenly. What’s more disgusting, a small portion of the spider had been eaten by him. Therefore, he threw the disgusting hamburger in the trash can. That night, Jack made a strange and wonderful dream…

Synopsis     

The detailed plot of the story is: one day, Jack ate a hamburger with dead spider which made him feel extremely disgusted. However, that night Jack dreamed that he became a spider-man with all the special power of the Spider-Man, and he was also very popular. Waking up in the morning, Jack immediately went to the trash can to pick up the hamburger with spider he threw away yesterday and eat it up. He wishfully thought that this disgusting hamburger with spider could make him become a spider-man. After returning to school, Jack confidently provoked a fight with the strongest bullies in his school. As a result, Jack did not break out super power; instead, he was beaten to the ground, and spit out the half of spider eaten in the morning eating.

 Treatment

Jack is an ordinary 10-year-old little boy with very introverted personality. He has been collecting a lot of superhero comics and fantasy of becoming superhero with special power some day. One day, while eating a hamburger, Jack found a disgusting dead spider in it suddenly. What’s more disgusting, a small portion of the spider had been eaten by him. Therefore, he threw disgusting hamburger in the trash can immediately. That night, Jack made an unusual dream. He dreamed that he turned into the real Spider-Man, shuttling between the skyscrapers and shooting spider silk. He caught the thief stealing at midnight, arrested escaped prisoner and saved a beautiful young lady. The young naturally fell in love with Jack, and Jack was also loved by the whole city. Waking up in the morning, Jack rushed to the trash can to pick up the hamburger with spider and eat it up. Then he returned to school and confidently provoked a fight with the strongest bullies in his school. As a result, Jack was so defenseless that he was hit at stomach by the bullies, flying out. It’s is funny that Jack was lying on the floor, spitting out the half of spider eaten in the morning.

The theme of the story is about ‘pursuit of self-validation’. It will tell us that there is no way to achieve self-worth for people who live negatively and blindly on the fantasy. This story will last about two minutes and 30 seconds .Even if  at the end of the story that Jack does not become a superhero. Instead, Jack was beaten seriously. Obviously, Jack is a negative example. The short film is a story of black humor, and its main target audience is the young people over the 16. However, the part that Jack becomes a spider-man in the dream will be very witty; therefore, the younger audience can also treat it as a comedy.

The animation style is cute and funny. Although it is a story of black humor, it still hopes to give people some positive influences. Therefore, the color of the animation is bright and warm. As for the role design, Jack will be a medium build little boy with some freckles on his face, half-length hair, and with very ordinary and gray dressing. In contrast, the bullies will have very exaggerated hair, bright dressing, earrings and nose stud. One of them will hold a baseball bat. There are three bullies in total. When Jack becomes a spider-man, he will wear typical spider-man’s clothes, but not wear headgear. Jack will expose his head, because be acquainted with all the people it is the thing Jack has always been eager to.

This is a 3D animated short film. The modeling, rigging, texturing, animation, lighting and render will be created by using Maya. Scenes of the story will also be achieved by utilizing Maya. Adobe Photoshop will be used to make backgrounds and textures. During the production process, Nuke will also be used. The animation has no dialogue; hence we use Soundtrack pro as the animation soundtrack. Moreover, the final cut pro will be used to composite the animation.

 Outline

After the title appears, the animation first shows a house filled with comic books, in the middle sitting Jack who is eating a hamburger. Then it closes up to specially show some comics, and finally demonstrates the whole picture of the room. The room is very messy with dim light.

Eating and eating, Jack suddenly shows strange expression. Then the shoot is close to the hamburger; there is a dead spider whose legs are bitten. Jack touches his stomach, and found the spider legs are eaten by him.

Jack rushes to the trash can; holding the hamburger in his right hand, leaning the trash can with left hand, vomiting. When feel comfortable, Jack pats his chest, and angrily threw the hamburger in the trash can. Then Jack walks out of the shoot. Finally, the close-up of trash can is shown.

At night, Jack is lying on the bed. The camera ratably drops from height, and shoots Jack from overhead. Then the montage skill is used to enter Jack’s dream.

The dream is the metropolitan scene. Jack wears the spider-man clothes, flying into the shoot, and the camera follows Jack. Jack shuttles between skyscrapers with spider silk.

At this time, a thief dressed in black enters the sight of the audience. The thief walks on tiptoe to a house door, picking the lock. Jack suddenly flies into the shoot, grabs the thief and takes off. Then, the shoot is switched, and the thief is sitting in jail.

Jack flies to the outskirts. Several criminals dressed in prison uniform are running on the road, and the police car are chasing for them.

The criminals are running all the time; suddenly the camera follows the sight of the criminals, and finds Jack standing in front of the criminals. Jack puts his hands on hips, laughing confidently. Then Jack sends the spider silk and ties the criminals together.

The shoot cuts to the road, and there are a lot of cars on the road. A beautiful young lady is crossing the street. Suddenly a bus rushes towards the young lady. Then the close-up of lady’s face is shown, and her expression very frightened.

Suddenly, Jack flies out to hold that girl to the sky. The close-up of the lady’s face is shown again. She is looking at Jack gratefully. At this moment, a moon appears behind Jack and the lady. Then, the moon turns into the shape of heart.

A black-white newspaper appears in the shoot, and its headline is the photo of Jack and the Mayor. It is a close-up photo; Jack is laughing very happily.

The montage skill is used to shift Jack’s photo to the scene of the reality. Lying in bed, Jack suddenly opens his eyes. Jack sits up from the bed, gets out of bed and runs to the trash can.

Jack finds the disgusting hamburger from the trash can and swallows it. Then, the shoot switches. Jack is standing in front of a mirror, inside of which is a spider-man. The following is the close-up of Jack’s expression. He is smiling confidently.

Scene switches, Jack stands in front of three young bullies. Behind the three bullies is a graffiti wall. One of them holds a baseball bat, looking very fierce; he and another bully stand side-by-side behind their boss. Their boss is the shortest; he put his hands in his pockets, standing in front.

Jack raises his middle finger to the three bullies. The side of the four people is shot at this time. Then the expression of the dwarf boss is focused; he is very angry.

The shoot then turns to the graffiti wall, so the audience can only see that wall. The shoot stays at the wall for 8 seconds. In the meantime, the short film is filled with the sound of Jack’s being beaten.

Switch the shoot, and shoot the camera on the ground. 2 seconds later, Jack is collapsed on the floor. Here comes the close-up of Jack’s face; Jack is beaten black and blue.

Jack’s face has being shot all the time, and he has been lying on the floor. Jack is coughing, suddenly he spit out the spider eaten in the morning. The shoot is switched, there is a close-up of the spider.
